The Intel Core i7 870 - The black sheep of the Nehalem family impresses. Breaking the family tradition with a Lynnfield architecture made him a hero, both in performance and a bright future.

===IMAGETITLE===

Is the Intel CPU core i7 870 worth it? I would say yes

The Intel CPU core i7 870 is a Lynnfield in a family of Nehalems. The Nehalem architecture used for other i7 CPUs has several differences that the current chip at hand. The previous i7s were based on a fast 3 channel memory scheme and a different socket, derived to bring the performance of a workstation to the desktop market. Designed to take advantage of Hyperthreading and the 3 channels of memory, the scheme is more complex than found in most desktop chips, and thus costs more to develop and produce.

The Lynnfield on the other hand, built just for the Intel CPU i7 870 and other desktops at the high end, take advantage of only 2 channels of memory, but adds an on die PCI controller. It seems like a recipe for a cheaper desktop, and in the future it might, but today it only spells the highest speed and the best performance from all but the highest speed, highest priced desktop CPUs on the market, and even rivals them.

Benchmarks for the use of this Intel CPU core i7 against its cousins, as well as competitors proved one thing, this chip is built for simplicity and speed. The use of dual channel memory did nothing to diminish this, and using Hyperthreading apps like video editing took off like a rocket, gaining up to 20% speed as compared to single thread CPUs. This is a high end system CPU, screams like a demon for gaming (although the on die PCI limits you to two GPUs) could be very comfortable as a professional digital editing PC, or whiz through business applications as fast as, but with fewer CPU cycles wasted than its more complicated, workstation architecture based Intel i7 cousins.
