eMachines is budget, and has never been shy about it. But just because its cheap doesn't mean its not a quality product, at least in this case.

eMachines T5254
eMachines T5254 A real Gaming PC for under $500

The eMachines T5254 is and AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU, 2GB RAM, and nVidia GeForce 6150 SE GPU, a DVD+/-RW, and a box to keep it all in for a penny under $400. Its a great deal. Its a steal. Built as a general purpose home/office PC that can also be used for gaming, it gives you plenty of room to play. It even includes a 320 GB hard drive (just a few years ago would have cost as much as the PC). If you do not have a computer, then you need to get the eMachines T5254. It makes the perfect kitchen table PC, is great for helping the children to do their homework, to surf the internet, or to run that small home based business that you always wanted to start. But that is not what I wanted to talk about today. I like this sort of stuff, but what got me excited about the eMachines T5254 was its ability to game as it claimed. So we decided to give it a try.

While running benchmarks we were enlightening, we really do not want to be too hard on a "gaming" PC that costs as much as a low-mid range graphics card. The expected results showed that the T5254 might want to limit its 3D ventures and stick to the occassional DVD movie viewing or Youtube views. It trolled through Windows Media Encoder like the march in Lord of the Rings and the Photshop CS3 testing was not much better. With the gaming for under $400 experiment over, it was time to come back do my senses and focus on what the eMachines T5254 is really made for and point out its good qualities.

It has a great energy efficiency rating for a budget PC, and goes head to head against most competing models in speed and performance testing, and its cheap.

One final note to add. Once you realize that this is a simple, general multipurpose PC that would be great for checking email and might need to be left out of the gaming room, be sure to fire up add/remove programs, and maybe download your favorite anti-adware software to remove all of the Napster, AOL, and Norton 60 day trial program crapware removed from your system. But hey, what can you expect, they have bills too, and you just bought a complete gaming system for $400.
