The Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9650 - Change can be hard, the Q9650 makes it a lot easier

The Intel CPU core 2 Quad Q9650 is not the only 45 nm design out there for your to choose from, and for the new build inclined, you might be hungry for a complete upgrade to the i7 platform with three channel memory and the need for a new, rather pricey motherboard. The platform is sure to mature and be surpassed long after the socket775 CPU market is forgotten, so it makes for a good landmark CPU choice, but mainly for the future proofing of the socket setup.

If, however, you plan on getting the very last dying breath out of a socket 775 motherboard, or are perhaps even the proud owner of an older i5 Intel CPU, the benefits of the Core2 Quad vs dual Core will be very noticeable. This is the perfect position to be in for the gaming market, as moving on to the Intel i7 Core platform requires you to make immediate changes (upgrade your MB, etc. that costs money) for delayed enjoyment, as most games do not take advantage of the Hyperthreading advantage of moving up, though having Intel Turbo Boost Technology enabled on this Intel Quad CPU would have been a nice plus.

This is in fact the fastest Core2 Quad CPU Intel puts out other than its Extreme Series. It would be nice if they would ship the Core2 Quad CPU unlocked, like the Extreme Editions do, but it still sits nicely at 3.0GHz. One of the greatest thing about this Intel Quad CPU, not only does it have Quad Cores but 12MB of L2 Cache to bite data in larger chunks for processing.

If you want the best on your current 775 platform, and can wait for Hyperthreaded abilities and 3 channel memory handling at the moment, then you should rush out to get this Intel Quad Core CPU, if not, then get an i7 Core2 and let the past be behind you, for its a bright future ahead.
