The Intel Core2 Quad 9300 is a great budget Intel Core2 Quad CPU. Yes, I said that correctly. And it beats the pants off of AMD Phenoms to boot.

Trouncing AMD Phenom with the Intel Core2 Quad 9300

Though a little pricier than the AMD Phenom, this Intel computer processor rightly triumphs over it in benchmarking. You get what you pay for in this case. The good thing is that it not only way out perform the competition for a little extra dough, it also saves you a lot of money when compared to the next in line winning AMD killers of its own family, the Q9950. The Q9550 will set you back a little over $600, so to get close to the same performance for $300 and a little overclocking makes it a much more attractive Intel Core2 Quad CPU. Our test revealed that the Q9300 Intel Core2 Quad CPU could be overclocked by about 1GHz before our 533MHS FSB bottle necked. If you need to overclock to the extreme, this might not be your best bet, and you might simply look for a mid range or even the more enthusiast friendly IQ9550, but then again 1GHz is not small clock speed bump.

The 45nm architecture of the Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9300 may be a power saver at heart, but it performs like a nearly overheated frag box, without the heat. Having four cores is nice, and worked perfectly, and even at higher clock rates never hiccuped at all. Its Quad Core performance was superb even under 100% load using POV-Ray 3.7. The bottom line for this Intel Core2 Quad CPU is that it truly is a next generation CPU, and budget at that. The fact that it quietly takes out the nearest competition on all levels makes for paying a few more bucks to trounce them, while still getting more than what you pay for just makes the Q9300 model a good Intel Core2 Quad CPU choice indeed.
