With an AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor and 1 GB or RAM, this
desktop, as shipped is intended to compute, plain and simple. The
nVidia GeForce 6100 that powers the graphics is backed by system
memory to allow 256MB setting, and thus Vista compatibility. If your
business needs grow, you can always update the CPU, or if your needs
require the extra cycle throttling now, you can opt to get the X2 4200
CPU by customizing your initial order (around $150+).If you plan on
upgrading the CPU yourself, or have other need to open the case
itself, such as adding to the SATA or IDE port (no outside access) it
is not tooless, put pretty straightforward. The Lenovo 3000 J115
offers 160 GB in storage, and though I wish that it was set in a RAID
configuration for data backup, with the limited amount of resources
available and for convenience also, they opted for a software
solution. While many companies pack all kinds of useless software into
their lower cost desktop PCs for one reason or another, the Lenovo
3000 J115 desktop does not do this....

Priced at under $1000, the HP Compaq dc5850 is in a class that is usually known for cheap, plastic housings, basic if not limited performance scores and little upgrade capability. Luckily for the the dc5850, it is an exception to this rule. While a business desktop is usually upgraded by a replacement of the entire machine, the mini tower case (though also available in small form factor) and availability of expansion slots make the dc5850 a business PC designed for a long lifespan. By default, the Athlon X2 5000B is quite able to complete almost any routine business task that you can throw at it. 2 Gb of RAM, ATI Radeon HD3100 IGP, and SuperMulti DVD+/-RW with LightScribe capability bring the system to a well rounded platform that can double as a home theater or home office PC of acceptable quality. Being a business configuration, both the audio and graphics chips are integrated, but this can easily be changed with full size card additions if you want at anytime....

Desktop Computers for Business Basics - The HP Compaq dc5800
While the dc5850 (reviewed earlier) does a decent job of fitting all that you need into its minitower, as well as leaving ample room for further improvement and expanding, I was a little disappointed when reviewing to its little cousin, the dc5800. While you would expect a little more power and speed from the dual core P4 that is included in this kit, desktop computers with the AMD processor did not take much of a performance hit when compared to this configuration. The difference between these kissing cousins is not really related to performance boosting, but mainly consists of a few parts being swapped out for others, for better or worse. It seems to be a pretty even give and take. I like the fact that the 5800 offers 160 GB (some now ship with 250GB) of hard drive space as compared to the 5850, but that is where I seemed to loose my enthusiasm....

While priced at approximately $1000 and slightly larger than a Mac Mini, the small form factor HP model might be "just enough" PC for you, and let's hope so. Cased within black metal and plastic, this not so larger-than-life desktop computer does have some impressive features, such as a quad core Intel processor, a blue-ray disk drive (though it is read-only), 4 GB of RAM, 500 GB HD, and an Intel graphics GeForce 9500GS GPU. In addition to the standard features, wi-fi wireless networking, and ATSC digital TV tuner,and a Pocket Media Drive make for some nice surprises for a small form factor PC...

Office PC Review - HP Pavilion Elite m9550f
HP is well-known for his multimedia systems and very simple prices. However, though there is nothing particularly wrong with this specific model, it did not have that particular wow factor that so many HP models used to distinguish themselves from the competition. The m9550's look is rather staid and outdated though perfectly functional. The small rubber MP3 player or other digital device holder, personal media drive and pocket media drive bays have been mainstays of the Pavilion line since 2007. I guess that HP takes the same if it's not broke don't fix it very serious, and with good reason, my little innovation would be nice even in $1000 PC. I can't say that the m9550f makes no forward strides, as the newer Intel core two Quad Q9300 CPU and 8 GB of DDR2 memory are a nice touch.They have also increased the power of the GPU by upgrading to the ATI Radeon HD 4850. The one missing factor there was included with the previous model that is sure to be missed is the now absent Blu-Ray disk drive, and ATSC TV tuner....
