Trying out a new platform can often come with the risk of missing out on soon to be included features of a more mature platform or a heavy upgrade cost to participate at all. AM2+ users can get AM3 capabilities with the AM3 CPU while keeping the AM2+ platform with the A780GMH/128M Motherboard.

ASRock A780GMH/128M Motherboard Review - A good upgrade in a pinch

ASRock is well known as the budget subsidiary of ASUS. ASRock has always come up with innovative ways to maintain value and still remain technologically competitive. The move from the 939 to the AM platform saw the invention of a crossover chip connector so that people could move to the new CPU platform without a more expensive motherboard upgrade, meaning saving the cost of a memory, or even a complete system upgrade. While many AM2+ will take in an AM3 CPU with a BIOS upgrade, the ASRock A780GMH/128M Motherboard needs no BIO modification to accommodate.

The AM2s still have a lot of users out there, and the choice to move up to the AM3 models is sure to be a future decision, but not right now. This, and the ability to stick with your platform while AM3 standard motherboard features mature, and prices drop, saving you even more.

The A780GMH/128M Motherboard itself can be your for under $70, combining with AMD value to make for a very capable cost saving performer. The inclusion of HDMI and other mid and high range goodies makes this an all around engine that can, and will for a great price. A very capable board. The only limitations in performance you might have would be more than likely in the bottleneck of legacy hardware and not the motherboard. But its not a deal killer, but the very reason this board was made.

The only time I would not recommend the ASRock A780GMH/128M Motherboard would be for a completely new system build, not because this is not an excellent board, because it is, but it wasn't made for you. But for the person it was designed for, it is the reason that ASRock shines.
